Market Snapshot

Tasmania records highest average price as NEM renewable share reaches 41 percent

Regional average prices ranged from 43.00 dollars per megawatt hour in Victoria to 70.00 dollars per megawatt hour in Tasmania. Victoria and South Australia recorded 14 combined intervals of negative pricing, while New South Wales and Tasmania saw no negative price occurrences.

Total demand was highest in New South Wales, peaking at 10,135 megawatts at 17:55. Morning peaks were observed in Victoria and Tasmania at approximately 08:00, while northern regions peaked during the evening period between 17:55 and 18:15.

Renewable sources provided 41.1 percent of total energy, with an instantaneous peak of 59.7 percent occurring at 11:05. Wind generation contributed 18.3 percent of the mix, while utility and rooftop solar combined for 13.0 percent of total output.

Battery storage discharged 12,595 megawatt hours, representing 1.9 percent of the generation mix. Total emissions reached 348,073 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is a 5.9 percent increase compared to the same day last week.

Today · Forward forecasts indicate a peak price of 319.04 dollars per megawatt hour in Queensland at 19:30 tonight.

Why it matters · The daily average of 61.60 dollars per megawatt hour sits 2.8 percent above the weekly average, extending a three-day upward price trend. This price firming occurred despite a high 41.1 percent renewable share and significant battery discharge, as emissions rose 5.9 percent above last week.
