Market Snapshot

NEM average prices rise twenty-four percent amid coal dominated generation mix

Regional average prices ranged from 51.00 dollars in Queensland to 84.90 dollars in South Australia with Tasmania reaching a daily peak of 153.90 dollars. Queensland was the only region to experience negative pricing with seven intervals recorded during the day while other regions remained positive throughout.

New South Wales recorded the highest regional demand peak of 10,262 megawatts at 17:45 while Victoria and Queensland both peaked near 17:55. Total system energy consumption was led by New South Wales at 399.4 gigawatt hours followed by Victoria and Queensland at approximately 290 gigawatt hours each.

Renewable generation reached an instantaneous peak of 49.2% at 09:30 with wind contributing 20.1% and total solar providing 15.4% of the daily mix. Batteries discharged 14,618 megawatt hours to the grid while hydro generation accounted for 7.6% of the total energy supplied during the period.

FCAS costs were concentrated in Tasmania which recorded the highest peak prices for seven out of eight market services including Raise Regulation. Total emissions for the trading day were 336,288 tonnes of carbon dioxide representing a moderate decrease from the same day the previous week.
