Renewables reach nearly half of generation as South Australian prices drop
Regional price averages ranged from $17.30/MWh in South Australia to $82.30/MWh in Tasmania. Queensland and South Australia experienced negative price intervals, while New South Wales and Tasmania maintained positive pricing throughout the day. New South Wales recorded the highest peak demand of 10,540 MW at 18:25.
Wind generation was a significant contributor at 30.7% of the total mix, while utility and rooftop solar combined for 13.2%. Total renewable penetration reached an instantaneous peak of 59.4% at 11:50. Coal remained the primary source at 45.8%, with gas and hydro providing 2.0% and 6.6% respectively.
Batteries discharged 11,681 MWh to the grid, finishing the day with a net consumption of 4,139 MWh. FCAS costs were led by the Raise 60 Second service at $176,725, with a peak price of $991/MWh in South Australia. Total emissions fell 22.8% compared to the same day last week.
