Market Snapshot

Renewable share nears fifty percent as Victorian prices drop to single digits

Average prices across the mainland remained low, with South Australia at 17.30 dollars and New South Wales at 42.40 dollars per megawatt hour. Queensland saw higher volatility with a maximum price of 165.50 dollars, while Tasmania maintained the highest regional average at 80.00 dollars.

System demand peaked between 18:00 and 18:40 across all regions, led by New South Wales at 10,103 megawatts. Coal provided 44.5 percent of the total energy mix, while wind generation contributed a significant 31.4 percent share to the grid.

Renewable penetration reached an instantaneous peak of 64.8 percent at 12:25. Utility and rooftop solar combined for 14.7 percent of the daily generation, while hydro contributed 5.9 percent. Batteries discharged 12,322 megawatt hours but remained net consumers of energy for the day.

FCAS costs were led by the Raise 6 Second service at 100,123 dollars, peaking in Tasmania. Interconnector flows saw 42,262 megawatt hours move from Victoria to New South Wales, while Queensland exported 36,696 megawatt hours south.
