Queensland price volatility contrasts with broad NEM average price declines

Regional price spreads were significant, ranging from a low of $30.00/MWh in Victoria to $97.20/MWh in South Australia. Queensland experienced 140 negative price intervals, yet its VWAP remained at $49.30/MWh. New South Wales saw the highest peak demand of 9,362 MW at 18:05, contributing to a total regional energy consumption of 371.7 GWh.

Coal provided 52.6% of the generation mix, while the combined renewable share peaked at 65.6% during the midday period. Wind and rooftop solar contributed 17.5% and 11.4% respectively. Battery storage discharged 18,327 MWh throughout the day, though the fleet remained a net consumer of 2,692 MWh.

FCAS costs were highlighted by a spike in the Lower 6-Second service in Tasmania, which reached a peak price of $2,944.00/MWh. Total daily emissions across the NEM were 341,278 tCO2, representing a 10.4% decrease compared to the same day last week.
