South Australia average price falls to 28.6 dollars amid negative intervals
Regional price spreads were significant with Queensland and South Australia experiencing 142 and 178 negative intervals respectively. New South Wales saw the highest average price of 65.9 dollars per megawatt hour and a demand peak of 10,311 megawatts at 18:45. Tasmania recorded the highest single interval price of 320.2 dollars per megawatt hour during the morning.
Renewables contributed 47.6% of the total energy mix with wind providing 23.2% and combined solar reaching 17.5%. Coal remained the primary generation source at 49.3% while gas dispatch was limited to 1.6% of the total mix. Batteries discharged 18,829 megawatt hours into the grid with a net consumption of 2,984 megawatt hours.
FCAS costs were concentrated in Tasmania where Raise Regulation and Lower Regulation services reached peak prices of 238 and 89 dollars. Interconnector flows showed significant movement from New South Wales into Queensland and from Victoria into South Australia. Total daily emissions were recorded at 330,811 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
Today · Forward forecasts indicate a peak price of 319.04 dollars in Queensland at 19:30 and 145.00 dollars in South Australia at 18:30.
Why it matters · The daily average of 51.7 dollars sits well below the 77.33 dollar weekly average, extending a low-price trend established over the last four days. This price softening coincided with a 13.4% drop in emissions and a high 47.6% renewable share, despite coal still providing nearly half of total generation.
