The Australian government endorsed a global plan to double the number of homes with rooftop solar to 300 million by 2030. The endorsement occurred via the Global Rooftop Solar Declaration announced at the 2026 Pacific Pre-COP meeting in Fiji. Record Australian rooftop solar adoption continues to be driven by high electricity costs alongside federal and state financial incentives. Favourable solar exposure also supports the world-leading penetration levels across the country, and further growth is anticipated as households seek to mitigate price volatility.
The NEM average price was $80.70/MWh, while the New South Wales average of $217.80/MWh was the highest of its seven-day range. New South Wales reached a maximum price of $23,200/MWh at 07:20. Negative-price hours were large across southern regions, with Victoria recording 23.7 hours, Tasmania 21.2 hours and South Australia 19.8 hours. New South Wales recorded a demand peak of 7,906 MW at 18:45. Renewables provided 49.6 per cent of energy across the day, with an instantaneous peak of 72.5 per cent at 10:55, while batteries discharged 13,092 MWh.
