Origin Energy applied for federal environmental approval to expand its Eraring battery project in New South Wales. The proposed Eraring BESS North project adds 500 MW of capacity with an eight-hour storage duration. This 4.9 GWh increase builds upon the existing storage facility currently under construction at the site of the coal-fired power station. The expansion brings the total capacity of the complex to 1,200 MW and 8,600 MWh. Origin Energy referred the project for assessment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
Australia's 59 grid-scale batteries earned an estimated $88.91 million in gross energy and frequency control ancillary services market revenue in the NEM during the third quarter. Five days delivered 15 per cent of this revenue. Australian utility-scale solar and wind assets produced 5.44 TWh of electricity during September.
