South Australia average price reaches 156.80 dollars per megawatt hour
Regional average prices varied significantly across the NEM, ranging from $56.3/MWh in Tasmania to $156.8/MWh in South Australia. Negative price intervals occurred in Queensland, South Australia, and Victoria, with Queensland recording eight such periods and a minimum price of -$2.5/MWh.
Coal remained the primary generation source at 51.9% of the mix, while wind contributed 22.5% and total solar provided 10.1%. Renewables reached an instantaneous peak of 56.3% at 12:25, coinciding with a 12.5% reduction in total emissions compared to the same day last week.
Batteries discharged 14,935 MWh into the grid, representing 2.2% of the total generation mix for the day. FCAS costs were most prominent in the Raise Regulation service at $39,054, with Tasmania recording the peak price of $47/MWh for that category.
Interconnector flows showed significant movement from New South Wales to Queensland via the NSW1-QLD1 link at 55,330 MWh. Demand peaks across the mainland regions were concentrated between 17:50 and 18:30, while Tasmania peaked earlier at 08:15.
Today · Pre-dispatch forecasts indicate a peak price of $319.04/MWh in Queensland at 19:30 and $145.00/MWh in South Australia at 18:30.
Why it matters · The daily average of $89.5/MWh sits 40.5% below the weekly average, continuing a downward trend from the $328.1/MWh peak seven days ago. This lower price environment coincided with a high 42.8% renewable share and a 12.5% drop in emissions despite persistent evening demand peaks.
