Market Snapshot

NEM daily average prices fall below one hundred dollars per megawatt hour

Average prices across the NEM ranged from $79.20/MWh in Tasmania to $105.60/MWh in New South Wales. No negative price intervals or cap events were recorded in any region. Tasmania saw the highest single interval price of $234.60/MWh, while Queensland recorded the lowest price floor of $32.00/MWh.

Coal-fired generation provided 54.5% of the total energy mix, followed by wind at 14.9% and hydro at 10.5%. Combined solar contributions reached 12.0%, with renewables hitting an instantaneous peak of 55.8% at 11:10. Total daily emissions were 361,452 tonnes of CO2.

System demand peaked in New South Wales at 10,531 MW at 18:00, coinciding with the broader evening ramp. Batteries discharged 9,548 MWh to the grid, resulting in a net consumption of 6,626 MWh after charging. FCAS costs were most prominent in the Raise Regulation service, totaling $48,432 with peak prices occurring in Tasmania.

Today · Queensland is forecast to reach a peak price of $319.04/MWh at 19:30, while other regions remain below $150.00/MWh.

Why it matters · The daily average of $97.00/MWh sits significantly below the weekly average of $160.70/MWh, extending a three-day downward trend in market volatility. This price softening occurred despite a 4% rise in emissions and a relatively low 37.3% renewable share, indicating a period of stable baseload dispatch.
